Moss Landing field day looks at floricultural production without Methyl Bromide

 

A June 4 field day in Moss Landing will look at “California Floricultural Production without Methyl Bromide Field Day – Demonstration Trials in Calla Lilies.”

This is an outdoor, morning field day (7:30-11:30 AM) for ornamental and cut flower growers on June 4, 2008 at Golden State Bulb Grower’s Dolan Ranch in Moss Landing, organized by University of California Davis and USDA-ARS Parlier.

The workshop is tailored for flower and foliage producers, and will provide information on pathogen and weed control without methyl bromide, emerging pesticides, notification requirements, pesticide safety and pesticide use recommendations, fumigant emission reduction with impermeable films, and the latest on the light brown apple moth in nurseries and field-grown ornamentals.

Participants will also be able to witness a field demonstration of soil disinfestation practice with heat. The speakers include Dr. Susanne Klose, Project Scientist, Department of Plant Sciences, UC Davis, Dr. Jim Gerik, USDA-ARS Parlier, Karen Stahlman, Monterey County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office, Dr. Husein Ajwa and Dr. Steve Fennimore, Extension Specialists, Department of Plant Sciences, UC Davis, and a representative of the Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA).

A large-scale demonstration trial conducted within the Pacific Area-wide Methyl Bromide Alternatives Program is in progress at Dolan Ranch that participants will be visiting.
